What is a good recipe out of ham stock?

After we finished the ham, the ham hock is boiling now and usually make ham veggie soup w/cornbread.

Any recipes that I can use this broth for ?What is a good recipe out of ham stock?
Cook your veggies (string beans, collard greens, etc) in it.

Make your rice in it.What is a good recipe out of ham stock?
Great soup!!

Get a bag of 17 beans or whatever is close...or even just navy beans. Soak them, and drain before adding to your soup. Throw in the meat you picked off, plus a couple diced potatoes, carrots, celery, onion.

Bean soup is a German traditional dish....deee-lish!
Try cooking any kind of beans down with ham broth.
Great answer sexy..all veggies taste better in ham fat!! Other than that it makes great bean soup. And the Southern Secret...make ';ham rice';...use the broth instead of water to make white rice. And put a big blob of butter on top when serving.

What is a good recipe for a ham and bean soup?

I have some leftover Christmas ham and wanted to make a ham and bean soup. Any good recipes?

Thank you! What is a good recipe for a ham and bean soup?
Just boil the hambone by covering it with water and turning on the stove. You can use navy beans or split pea. The navy bean is best if you soak it overnight before making the soup. The split pea you just dump the dried split pea right into the boiling water and cook it for around 1 or 2 hours. Dice up whatever you have, usually onion and carrot, and also add some bay leaf. If it isn't meaty enough, add a cube of bullion (chicken or pork bullion works well, do NOT add beef bullion!) Just let it cook until the beans are soft. It is great! Use some black pepper when you serve it, sprinkle on top. You could also use canned beans but it does not taste nearly as good as from scratch with the dried beans. It gets a kind of tinny taste. What is a good recipe for a ham and bean soup?
Depending on the amount of ham, add beans accordingly. To give it extra flavor add chicken bullion equivalent to the bean amount for flavor I also throw in things like scallions, jalapenos and garlic for extra flavor but you need to use that at your discretion it's kind of like a soup for u. If you like it throw it in the tastes blended together are great. Go with the flow.
wash your PINTO beans to remove all dirt and any possibility of rocks, and bad beans.

place in crock pot with about 2 qt water. cook on high for about 30 min, add salt, pepper, a pinch of red pepper, your ham, and onion powder. continue cooking on high for 5 hours or until beans are soft enough for your taste. About 30 min before they are ready, place 1 onion diced in them, and a dash of worchestire sauce.
Saute some chopped up onions, a stalk of celery and a sliced up carrot until kind of soft. then throw in some chopped up ham. add a 1/2 cup white wine and let it cook for a minute or two to burn off the alcohol. Toss in a few bay leaves, some fresh ground pepper then a large can of low sodium chicken stock. Bring it up to a simmer and throw in a couple of cans of white beans and a let simmer for about 5 minutes. When just about ready to serve toss in a bag of prewashed baby spinach. Very tasty when topped with a bit of parmesan cheese!
    Beans and ham works.

    ***Cherry-Streusel Coffe Cake***

    Makes one 9-inch tube cake

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature, plus more for pan

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon baking powder

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 cup sugar

    2 large eggs

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    1 cup sour cream

1 cup frozen sour cherries, thawed and drained well

    1 cup Streusel

    Milk Glaze

    Directions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9-inch tube pan; set aside. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.

2.In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla on medium speed until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the flour mixture in three parts, alternating with the sour cream and beginning and ending with the flour. Beat until just combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

3.Spoon about half the batter into the prepared pan. Arrange the cherries in a single layer on top of the batter; avoid placing any cherries against the pan's edge, as they may stick or burn if not fully encased in batter. Top with the remaining batter, making sure it is evenly distributed, and smooth with an offset spatula. Sprinkle streusel evenly over the top of the batter.

4.Bake until cake is golden brown and springs back when touched, 40 to 45 minutes. Transfer pan to a wire rack set over a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and let cake cool 10 to 15 minutes. Invert cake onto rack, then re-invert (so streusel side is up), and let cool completely. Spoon glaze over the cake, letting it drip down sides. Let cake sit until glaze is set, about 5 minutes, before serving. Cake can be kept at room temperature, wrapped well in plastic, for up to 4 days.Does anyone have a really easy ham quiche recipe?

I don't use a gravy but. You cook it in the oven at about 300-350 for 2-3 hours ( about 20 minutes per pound) or if you have a crock pot and it's big enough to fit the ham in throw it in the crock. I rub some brown sugar over it, a few cloves, some pineapple slices all around with toothpicks maybe some cherries taste yummy and are decorative. Throw it all in your roasting pan or crock and bake away. I throw the pineapple juice in also. Creates it's own juices and a wonderful aroma. You can also instead of the brown sugar use a can of cola, or ginger ale, even a light beer.

if thats what the recipe says then it should be just fine
should be fine. If you are worried about the ham being fully cooked, keep in mind that most of it is pre-cooked when you buy it.
If the ham is the pre-cooked kind, it'll be OK. If it's a country ham, no. They need to be simmered until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees, about 20 minutes a pound.
sounds like a good time but also make sure the recipe doesn't call for smoked or precooked meat. If it does that would be why it has a short cook time and using raw meat it may not be as done as you like

Baked Ham with a Brown Sugar, Rum and Cayenne Glaze

In this recipe, a spicy-sweet, flavorful glaze is brushed on the ham during baking to give it a burnished, golden brown appearance and to complement the assertive taste of the meat. It also enriches the pan drippings, which are then used to make a sauce. Brush the glaze on the ham partway through baking, not at the beginning, to prevent the sugar-based mixture from scorching.

1 partially cooked bone-in ham, about 12 lb.

    Whole cloves for studding

    2 cups unfiltered apple juice

    For the glaze:

1 1⁄2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar

    1⁄2 cup dark rum

    Pinch of kosher salt

1⁄8 to 1⁄4 tsp. cayenne pepper

Orange or tangerine wedges or fresh or

    candied kumquats for garnish

    Fresh thyme sprigs for garnish

    Preheat an oven to 350°F.

Using a large, sharp knife, cut off the skin and all but 1⁄4 inch of the fat from the ham, leaving the surface as smooth as possible. Score the top and sides of the ham diagonally in two opposite directions about 1 1⁄2 inches apart, creating a diamond pattern. Stick a clove into the corners of each diamond. Place the ham on a rack in a roasting pan. Add the apple juice and 2 cups water to the pan. Bake the ham for 2 hours. After 1 hour, add more water to the pan if needed.

Meanwhile, make the glaze: In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, rum, kosher salt and cayenne pepper and stir until smooth. Let stand for about 10 minutes for the sugar to dissolve partially.

Remove the ham from the oven and brush some of the glaze evenly over the ham. Return the ham to the oven and bake for about 1 hour more, brushing it with more glaze every 15 minutes, for a total baking time of about 3 hours. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the center of the meat, away from the bone, should register 130°F and the glaze should be golden brown. Transfer the ham to a platter, cover loosely with aluminum foil and let rest for 15 to 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, pour the liquid from the roasting pan into a large fat separator or glass measuring pitcher. Let the fat rise to the surface, then pour or spoon off as much fat as possible. Float a piece of paper towel on the surface to absorb the remaining fat. Pour the degreased liquid into a small saucepan and add any remaining glaze to make a sauce. Set aside.

Carve the ham. Rewarm the sauce and pour it into a sauceboat. Garnish the platter with the orange wedges and thyme and serve the ham warm with the sauce. Serves 8 to 10.Lookin for a good recipe for ham sauce.?

Boil a ham bone with and left over ham gravy and ham and 1-2 cans of low sodium chicken broth.

Add 3 potatoes, cut into bite size chunks

    1 medium onion chopped

1 large jar of great northern beans (these will not be found with canned beans, they are in a glass jar, usually found by saurekraut in the grocery store)

Simmer all ingrediants until potatoes are soft.

how basic and classic, basically just get some ham and some beans, i perfer great north add some salt and pepper cook beans and ham in crock pot or cook beans then add ham. it you like good soup however, brown the ham, add garlic and onions, add some sausage or kilbalsa and or some chicken, use good seasoning i like to mix it up depending on if you like spicey or not, brown all the meat add to crock pot and heat, dont overcook the beans or they will turn to mush, garnish with fresh onions, and maybe a little cilantro and serve with cornbread, good luck!

Does anyone have a great recipe for ham and bean soup?

I tried to make it with pinto beans and it came out really mushy. What are those white beans called that you see in the ham and bean soup at restaurants?Does anyone have a great recipe for ham and bean soup?
I have used navy beans or great northern beans in different ham and bean soups that I have soaked over night and cooked them all day in the crock and for a few hours on the stove. My beans turn out mushy too. The soups were great, but like you I'm not a big mushy bean person.

I thought about using a recipe with canned beans that way it wouldn't take too long to cook and the beans shouldn't come out mushy. I have tried several recipes and found a really good one. Here it is...

    BEST HAM %26amp; BEAN SOUP

3/4 pound fully cooked ham cubed

    1 cup peeled diced potatoes

    1 medium onion chopped

    3/4 cup diced carrots

    2 cloves garlic minced

    3/4 cup diced celery

    2 Tablespoons Butter

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

2 cans (16 ounces) great northern beans, rinsed and; drained

1/2 cup frozen peas (I left this out, because my son doesn't like peas)

    3 cups chicken broth

    2 Tablespoons minced fresh parsley

    2 cups water

In a 3 quart saucepan, saute ham, onion and garlic in butter until onion is tender.

Add the next seven ingredients; cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

Add peas and cook for 5 minutes. Add parsley and serve.

Yields 8 servings.Does anyone have a great recipe for ham and bean soup?
1 cup navy beans, soaked overnight

    2 tsp. + 2 tsp. olive oil

    1 onion, chopped small

    1 1 /2 cups diced ham

1 can (14 oz.) petite dice tomatoes

5 cups chicken stock (I used my homemade chicken stock)

1 packet Goya Ham flavored concentrate (optional, this can be hard to find but it's often sold near Mexican foods. If you have ham rinds you can cook them with the soup and remove instead of using this.)

1 T dried cilantro (optional but recommended, or can use more fresh cilantro)

    2 tsp. ground cumin

1 can diced green chiles (Anaheim chiles, not jalapenos)

1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro (or more to taste)

Thinly sliced green onions, for garnish

~Soak 1 cup navy beans overnight, then cook on stovetop in a generous amount of water for about 30 minutes, or until beans are tender. Can also use 2 cans navy beans, rinsed well before adding to soup.

~Saute onion, spices, and green chiles in soup pot. Add all other ingredients except cilantro. Simmer soup at low heat for about an 30 minutes (I let it go for an hour), until flavors seem well blended. Turn off heat and stir in chopped cilantro.
those are navy beans...brb with the recipe I prefer

    Ingredients

1 pound dried navy or great northern beans

1 ham bone, with some meat on it

2 teaspoons dried sage or savory, crumbled

    2 celery stalks

    1 carrot

    1 potato, preferably baking type

    2 onions

    2 cloves garlic

    2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)

    salt and pepper

    Directions

    * Sort through the beans and remove any debris. Rinse, add 6 cups water and soak overnight (or use the quick-soak method: boil, uncovered, 2 minutes, cover and let stand 1 hour).

    * Drain soaking water, add 2 quarts fresh water, the ham bone (after cutting most of the edible bits from the bone, leaving some to flavor the soup), sage or savory, and a generous quantity of freashly ground pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, partially covered, for 60 - 90 minutes or until beans are soft.

    * Remove bone from the soup. If there is any edible meat on it, trim off and add back into the soup. Dice onion, carrot, and potato. Slice celery and mince or press garlic. Add vegetables to the soup, along with 2 teaspoons of salt. Simmer until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes. For a thicker soup, pur茅e some of the vegetables and stir back in. Add reserved ham, taste for seasoning, and sprinkle with chopped parsley, if using

    Maple-Brined Turkey

    Source: Better Homes and Gardens

    Prep: 20 minutes

    Marinate: 12 hours

    Roast: 2-3/4 hours

    Ingredients

    1-1/2 gallons water (24 cups)

1-1/2 cups pure maple syrup or maple-lavored syrup

    1 cup coarse salt

    3/4 cup packed brown sugar

    1 8- to10-pound turkey (not self-basting)

    Cooking oil

    Directions

    1. For brine, in a 10-quart pot combine water, syrup, salt, and brown sugar; stir to dissolve sugar and salt. Set aside.

    2. Rinse turkey inside and out; remove any excess fat from cavity. Carefully add turkey to brine. Cover and marinate in refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.

    3. Remove turkey from brine; discard brine. Rinse turkey and pat dry with paper towels. Place turkey, breast side up, on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Tuck drumstick ends under the band of skin across the tail. (If the band of skin is not present, tie the drumsticks securely to the tail.) Twist wing tips under the back. Brush with oil. Insert a meat thermometer into the center of one of the inside thigh muscles.

    4. Cover turkey loosely with foil. Roast turkey in a 325 degree F oven for 2-3/4 to 3 hours or until thermometer registers 180 degrees F. After 2-1/4 hours, remove foil and cut band of skin or string between the drumsticks so thighs will cook evenly. When done, drumsticks should move very easily in their sockets. Cover turkey; let stand at room temperature 20 minutes before carving. Makes 12 servings.

The test kitchen found that a 10-quart stockpot worked best to hold the turkey and brining mixture.

I just use grape jelly, mustard and brown sugar..you have to taste it to be sure you don't have too much sweet or sour
My favorite is just to rub the ham all over with yellow mustard, then generously press brown sugar all over it, then stick whole cloves all over it. Then bake. For such a simple recipe, it is to die for. :)

    4 Tablespoons pure honey

    1 teaspoon English mustard

    Fresh ground black Pepper

Mix honey and mustard, add a little water (half teaspoon if needed) glaze over the joint then dust with pepper.

    Dr pepper ham recipe?

I want to make a glazed ham utilizing D.P. and brown sugar.

What techniques or other ingredients should be used.Dr pepper ham recipe?
brown sugar, orange juice, djon mustard.

Make the glaze (you can do this the day before or earlier if you need to). Put the Dr. Pepper, sugar, orange juice, and mustard in a sauce pan and bring to a simmer. The mustard is hard to dissolve, and requires constant stirring. (Next time I'm going to whip the mustard into a small amount of liquid first, to see if it makes it easier.) Simmer the glaze for about 10 minutes, and remove from the heat.

When the ham is warm in the center, take it out of the oven, remove the foil, and paint the glaze on with a brush. Put it back in the oven for 10-15 minutes to set the glaze, and then remove the ham from the oven, paint it again with glaze, and cover it until it's time to eat.Dr pepper ham recipe?
Hmm.... cant find anything like that,.... but try this one, it is always a classic! But my advice is that you pour the dr. pepper onto the ham, and wrap aluminum foil around it to keep all the juices inside. Good luck!

Mix crumbs, butter, sugar, pecans and Dr. Pepper. Form into very small balls.
I am afraid that this recipe does use brown sugar, but I would trust the source any day of the week. Besides, the sugar is to sweeten, and is being replaced by the juice.

I dont have a specific recipe but cook the ham like normal but sprinkle some brown sugar on it and poor 1 or 2 cans of Dr. pepper on top of the ham. Cover with foil and let it bake. you can baste it as it cooks if you want. another thing i like to do is instead of dr. pep i use orange juice and a can of pineapple chunks w/ the juice. delicious!

On a wrap of your choice spread some whole grain dijon mustard down the center. Next spread some Mayo down the center and a little ranch dressing or hummus if you like. Next add the cheese of your choice, I would use swiss! but anything you like would work. Next add your slices of ham and top with any lettuce you choose. You can also add cucumbers for crunch or some bell peppers if you like those.
I love avocado slices on any sandwich, purple onion and maybe some fresh spinach or arugula instead of regular lettuce, nice juicy tomatoes slices, horseradish mustard or put some hummus on the bread. I like muenster or baby swiss cheese. Now I鈥檓 hungry. I think I'll have that for lunch myself. YUM :)

    Easy mini ham quiche recipe?

I'm going to a party tomorrow and would like to make mini quiches using my mini muffin pans. Does anyone have a good tried and true recipe for something like this? I have cheddar cheese, eggs and ham and can also go and get some different ingredients to go with.

I am looking for a proven recipe, not a link to a website or something that sounds good - 10 points to the best one. Thank you!Easy mini ham quiche recipe?
2 premade pie crust....using a glass cut out circles and place the mini pie shells in muffin tins.

    in a blender combine 4 egg,s%26amp;p,and 3/4 cups milk..or half and half.

place ham cheese in the bottom of pie shells...pour in egg mixture...bake at 350 for 25 mins or until brown and puffy.Easy mini ham quiche recipe?
    I use turkey ham

    1c Turkey Ham chopped

    1c Spinach chopped

    1c Mushrooms chopped

    1/2c Onions chopped

    1/2c shredded Mozzarella cheese

    1/2c of Bisquick or flour

    1/4c Parisian Cheese

    3 eggs

    1/2c Milk

1/4c Olive oil or veg. oil

    Salt and Pepper to taste

Now because you want to use your little muffin pan, I would saute the onions and mushrooms and Spanish if raw first, so that it is all the right consistency.

Now is a regular pan it is 325 deg. for 40 min.

But you will have to make the necessary adjustments.

Do you have a recipe for ham and corn chowder?

As always, amounts not necessary...just ingredients.

Thanks so much!Do you have a recipe for ham and corn chowder?
Cut up potatoes, ham and add 1 can of corn, or frozen equivalent, and 1/2 cup chopped onion. Combine in pot and add water until its all covered with about a half inch extra. Boil until potatoes are soft. Keep boiling while you mix up thickening, as you would for making gravy, and add it to the pot. Slowly stir it in so that it mixes well with the other ingredients. Season to taste with salt, pepper, garlic salt, season salt, or whatever you like to season with.

If you dont know how to make thickening- try this. Use one scoop of flour (about 3/4ths of a cup) and add hot water, stirring until its almost a porridge consistancy. Dont make it into a paste, and dont make it too runny. Mix until well blended and not lumpy.Do you have a recipe for ham and corn chowder?
    Try the following

    Ingredients

    25g/1oz butter

    75g/2戮oz potatoes, sliced

    1 shallot, sliced

    1 tomato, chopped

    5 tbsp white wine

    Method

    2. Add the white wine and chicken stock and cook for a further ten minutes.

    3. Add the Parma ham, Dover sole pieces and sweetcorn and simmer for three minutes.

    4. Stir in the cream and chives and season to taste.

    5. Serve in a large bowl.
    Onion, sliced

    Salt

    Croutons, or oyster crackers

    Ham, chopped

    Pepper

Saute onion in butter until tender. Add remaining

ingreds. to pot and cook over low heat until

thoroughly heated. Garnish with croutons or crackers.

    Makes 6-8 servings.
6-10 potatoes (depending on how much you want to make)

1 lb. shredded carrots (bought mine already shredded)

    1 roll frozen creamed corn

1 lb. bag frozen white corn

1 lb. bag frozen yellow corn

1-2 pkg. ham (I used seasoning pieces in mine)

    2 onions

    2 stalks celery

    1 bar cream cheese

2 cans cream of chicken soup (or your choice of any cream of soup)

I mix a little mustard with the brown sugar to make a thick paste, coat the ham, use toothpicks to attach pineapple rings, and let it bake away til the pineapple rings start to brown a little. you should use a bread dough recipe you can find one at foodnetwork.com those pre-made crusts don't taste all that good kinda like card board i think. roll it out and top it with what you want i recommend draining canned pineapple on a paper towel to get all the moisture out. add your favorit swiss and ham and set ur oven the highest it can go. cook the pizza on a cookie sheet for anywhere between 8 and 15 mins depending on how hot you have the oven. the hotter the oven the more crisp the crust will be. and if you like to make pizza a lot i would buy a pizza stone and a pizza peel. they make great pizzeria pizza in your own kitchen.I need a Ham,swiss, pineapple,Pizza Recipes?

Spread the cornbread/butter over the cheese.

    Healthy Ham Quiche

    Ingredients

    1 cup low-fat silken tofu

1 cup low-fat vanilla soy milk

    1 cup liquid egg product

    3/4 cup nonfat ricotta cheese

    One 4-ounce can of mushrooms

One 10-ounce bag no-fat shredded mozzarella cheese

    1 medium red bell pepper

1 medium yellow or green pepper

2 very mild jalapeno peppers (2/3 of a small can of Ortega roasted mild chilis)

1 to 1-1/2 cup cubed or ground ham (may substitute 3/4 cup crumbled bacon or sausage)

1/2 to 1 teaspoon hot curry

    1 Tablespoon chopped onions

    1 teaspoon granulated steak seasoning

    1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

    1/2 teaspoon cilantro

    2 baked, cooled pie crusts

Blend the first 4 ingredients and the spices in blender. Chop peppers and ham in a food processor until the size of small peas. Drain in colander a few minutes. In the pie crusts, distribute the shredded cheese, mushrooms, ham, and peppers. Pour liquid from blender over it.

Bake about 45 minutes at 350 degrees until knife inserted into pie comes out clean. Let set at least 15 minutes, then cut in wedges and serve. May be reheated in microwave for late-comers. Makes 2 pies.

Hints: If you use frozen pre-made pie crusts, be sure to thaw first and poke holes around it before baking to prevent air bubbles; otherwise, it may come out soggy.

Substitutions: For those with a wheat allergy, try our corn meal substitute: 3-1/4 cups cold water, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon chili powder, and 1-3/4 cup corn meal (yellow or white). Cook over medium heat until quite thick and stiff, about 8 minutes. Press thick corn meal mixture in pie pan as a substitute for the pie crust.Does anyone have a good recipe for ham quiche?

1 sm. (5 1/3 oz.) can evaporated milk

Basic quiche: 6 large eggs, whisked in a bowl

Add 1 pint half and half, 1 teaspoon dry mustard, 1 teaspoon season salt, 1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce. Whisk vigorously with the eggs. Set aside.

Lightly saute together 1 cup chopped ham, 1/4 cup chopped onions and 1/4 cup chopped green pepper in a small skillet. Saute until the mixture is slightly dry.

Spread the ham and vegetable mixture in the bottom of an unbaked 9 or 10 inch pie crust. Add 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar and 1 cup grated Swiss cheese. Rewhisk the egg mixture lightly and gently pour it over the ham and cheese. Bake at 325 for about 45-50 minutes, or until set. Serve with sliced Roma tomatoes and steamed, buttered asparagus.

This basic egg/half and half ratio will make any kind of quiche. Just make sure that you cook the water out of mushrooms, ham, onions, etc. If not, the quiche will weep when you serve it.

This formula also makes a good custard pie if you add 1 cup sugar, 1/2 stick butter, and flavoring instead of the savory ingredients.

I don't have a ';recipe'; but my family has been baking ham with jack since I was a kid.

We take a ham, put it in a pot with some water in the bottom and then pour a mix of jack and other stuff (worchestishire, heinz 57, mustard, lemon juice, coke, etc.) over it and let it cook with lid on for 45 minutes. Then we put it on the grill (that's really important, it gives it a great color, taste and smell) for 45 minutes and baste it with the same sauce. Then we put it back in the pot and let is cook until we are ready to eat it. MMMMMM.
I don't have an answer but I'm glad you asked the question. We don't drink Whiskey but my husband always gets liquor for gifts at Christmas. We've had a large bottle of Jack Daniels for several years and don't know what to do with it. I'll try this. I hope it's still good after it has been opened. I think I drank some last year when I had a cold to help me sleep.
